Patient Advocacy

Nurses play a pivotal role in liaising among the many disciplines required to deliver patient services. Nurses can act as patient advocates and coordinate with other members of healthcare teams to ensure continuity of care. Nurses often have numerous interactions with patients, placing them in a unique position to help ensure patients' needs are met within the appropriate continuity of care. Learning patient's wishes and communicating them to others can be effective in protecting patients right to make choices about their health.

Review for Errors

Reviewing for and correcting errors in patients' healthcare information is critical in advocating for them. Nurses can identify errors, conflict orders, and oversights by conducting reviews and working with the patient's physicians and specialists to correct them.

Connect Patients to Resources They Need 

Developing an awareness of community resources, such as transportation, financial assistance, and support networks, and connecting patients with the resources are important elements of nursing advocacy.
